Flora Initiatives

Tree Planting

To further help stabilise the riparian zones, there has been a concerted effort by landholders to get as many plants as possible in the ground, both on the flats and creek banks.

Propagation

To support ongoing planting, the community has established its own facility to propagate endemic species from seeds collected in the valley.

Habitat Protection

Protecting and supporting the environment is a primary objective for many Upper Yango landholders. A big part of the plan is an ambition to create habitat refuges that can be defended against bushfires in the future.

Post Cool Burn Recovery Survey

In September 2024, 12 months after a series of successful Cool Burns, Dr Belinda Kenny, HotSpots Fire Ecologist with the Nature Conservation Council, undertook a comprehensive Post Fire Recovery Survey.

Post Bushfire Flora Survey

To gain an accurate understanding of the botanical makeup of the Upper Yango Valley, the UYLA engaged Macquarie University to undertake an extensive survey of the plant communities in the valley.
